Federal Heights

Taking on a complete remodel of a historic home built in 1922, was no easy task, given the parameters. Situated in one of Salt Lake City’s most historically significant neighborhoods, the goal of the remodel was to maintain all of the historic charm of the home, including the original metal St. Charles kitchen cabinets and fireplace tile, while bringing the home into the 21st century for a single dad and his two young daughters. The classic style of the home was to be a backdrop for, a collection of, 60’s and 70’s furniture including playful wallpapers. The home needed a complete upgrade, not only to the inside but also the outside, including the systems of the home while also adding a bathroom. Selecting a new stucco finish and color that felt “original”, took numerous iterations. Selecting the perfect windows, and the new cedar shake roof with copper trim and gutters, was also paramount in maintaining the original character of the home The home sits at over 5,000 square feet with 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, on a large lot overlooking downtown Salt Lake City and the Salt Lake Valley. Our goal was to maintain the integrity of the existing architecture and finishes, while at the same time allowing furniture pieces from Paul Evans, Milo Baughman and B&B Italia to feel at home. The home felt very serious and stoic when we started and now it has a sense of whimsy, while maintaining the historical integrity of the home.
