How to Buy a House in a Booming Market

NEW YORK — The housing market has been rebounding and the increased competition is leaving the number of available homes scarce in many cities.

Home prices also have risen compared to last year as the number of homes sold rose in all parts of the country except for the Midwest, according to a recent report from PNC, the Pittsburgh-based financial institution. The median sale price for an existing single-family home was $288,300 in July, up from $279,700 in June.

Creating Master Bathroom Harmony

We used a variety of textures and shapes in this bathroom in order to create a room that is visually appealing but not busy. On the floor we used a black slate cut into a chevron pattern. This created a beautiful visual on the floor that leads your eye to the wall behind the tub and shower. On this wall we used a stone tile that weaves in and out creating different depths in the rows of tile. It creates a subtle pattern that adds a lot of interest to this focal wall. All of these textures against the polished countertop stone work in harmony to create that tranquil feeling that many clients are looking for in a master bath.

Insulation Basics: Heat, R-Value and the Building Envelope

by: Mariana Pickering

Adding insulation to your home's building envelope (the walls, slab and roof that protect your home from the outside) can be one of the most cost-efficient ways to reduce your heating and cooling bills. In new construction, investing in the insulation is a smart way to reduce future maintenance costs by reducing the home's energy consumption.

Feeling Green? Try Recycled Glass Tile!

by: Matt Goering

No matter how green they claim to be, few building materials can boast that they are manufactured entirely from recycled materials. Not so with recycled tile. Unlike some other green materials, recycled tile is exactly what it claims to be. Glass that would otherwise be headed for the landfill is rescued, melted down, and re-cast as some of the most beautiful and distinct tiles on the market.

Testimonial

“I really can't say enough good things about Scott and Richard. Thoughtful and comprehensive design skills to really customize the homes they built for us. Classy yet current taste that exudes warmth and style in nearly every single feature. No short cuts taken. Intense, ever watchful and insight construction management. Would I recommend them or use them again? You bet: they've built two houses for us, remodeled a third. But then when a freak flood nearly wiped out our Deer Valley home and all the possessions, even before I got the first call, it was Richard and Scott who were both on site calling in the disaster recovery and protecting our investments. And of course, in their talented and caring hands they brought our home back to a new and even better life. I've built or remodeled a total of nine homes...Scott and Richard are the best team I've ever had.”
