The Small Spaces

When designing a home it's important to not overlook the small spaces including the powder room. This room will be used by most of your guests so it should make a bold statement. One way in which to do this is with a feature wall behind the vanity. In this powder bath we used a glass mosaic tile to add that wow factor in the room. It is a mirrored tile that is a mix of textures and sizes that help bounce light around the room. This is then offset by the black mirror frame and black plumbing fixtures. This tile completes the room and makes it a stunning showpiece that guests are sure to talk about.

Going Green: Major Renovations with Multiple Rooms

by: Matthew J. Goering

If you're preparing to undertake a major renovation that includes multiple rooms, you're entering prime territory for a green remodeling project. Why? The answer is what green remodeling expert David Johnston likes to call “whole systems building.” In other words, the greenest project possible is a remodel that is designed Green from the Ground Up. It ensures that everything from the flooring you choose on up to the insulation you install in your attic and everything in between works together to create the most energy-efficient, health-oriented, comfortable, and environmentally responsible remodel possible.

Testimonial

“Once we decided to build a house in Park City, choosing Jaffa Group as the architect and builder was the easiest part of our decision. For the five years prior to building our home, we would spend a portion of our time in Park City looking at existing homes with a realtor. While we never found a house with the right floor plan for our needs, we would periodically go into a house where the architecture style and design were a perfect match with our personal aesthetic. When we would ask the realtor, 'Who is the architect and builder of this house?' the answer was consistently, Jaffa Group. So we knew from the beginning, when we were ready to build our own custom home, we wanted Jaffa Group to be involved in every step of the process.

Before we purchased the land where we ultimately built our home, we called Scott and asked him to meet us on the lot. We had a vision of the home we wanted, and we knew Scott would tell us if he could design and build our dream home on this particular lot. Specifically, although it was a narrow lot, we wanted all of the large main rooms to have magnificent views and be located in the front of the house with the garage to be located in the back of the house. This would necessitate having a long driveway going up the side of the house. Although we hadn't met Scott before, we had enough confidence in him that if he had said the house we envisioned could not be built on this particular lot, we would not have purchased it.

Once the lot was purchased, then the fun really began. We gave Scott an extensive list of all the elements that we wanted in our home. It was a very detailed and very specific list of ideas that we had been thinking about for the past ten years. He and his team listened to everything we said and really designed the perfect home for us. One of our primary goals was to have mountain views whenever possible despite the narrow lot. Scott's meticulous placement of our home on the lot combined with his careful positioning of expansive windows allowed for stunning mountain views from practically every room in our home.

While we loved the mountain homes he had designed previously, we wanted something unique for us and a little more contemporary. From the very beginning, Scott had a sense of what we liked and what we were looking for in the design of our home. His use of different and unusual building materials combined with his artistic vision is what makes our home distinctive and timeless. Once the design was established, Richard made sure the construction was of the highest quality. Richard worked tirelessly overseeing every aspect of the construction resulting in a home that is solid and well built.

In working with Scott to select the finishes for our home such as tile, granite, lighting fixtures and hardware, it became clear to us that his artistic vision was integral to the overall look of our home. Consequently, we chose to use Jaffa Group to assist us in selecting all the furniture and accessories as well. As we expected, the furnishings they selected beautifully complement the architectural use of glass, stone, steel and wood in our home. Their discriminating taste and sense of style completed the overall look that we had hoped to achieve.

By using Scott, Richard and Jaffa Group from the very beginning to plan, design, build and furnish our home, we achieved a contemporary mountain home with a beautifully integrated exterior and interior that exceeded our expectations.”
