Home Prices Keep Building Up

TheLedger.com

WASHINGTON | U.S. home prices soared 12.1 percent in April from a year earlier, the biggest gain since February 2006, as more buyers are chasing fewer homes.

Real estate data provider CoreLogic says prices also rose 3.2 percent in April from March, much better than the previous month's gain. And prices rose in April from the previous year in 48 states. The only states to show declines were Mississippi and Alabama.

Prices in Nevada jumped 24.6 percent from a year earlier, the most among the states. California posted a 19.4 percent gain, followed by Arizona, at 17.3 percent; Hawaii at 17 percent; and Oregon, at 15.5 percent.

Interiors

Creating unification throughout a space seems like the simplest design ideal, but often it is the most complicated.

Too many of one thing and the space is flat, too much altogether and the scene is cacophonous. Park City has a very rustic and relaxed heritage but has been home to very traditional mountain design for a long time. As interior spaces become more modern and simplified there is another aesthetic to weave into our design landscape.

Coffered ceilings are typically a traditional design element, in this family room we have used rough beams for a more casual atmosphere. Gold isn't what comes to mind when thinking of neutral colors, but here, the gold sofa serves as a bright, but still earthy anchor for the room. The flat, modern texture of the fabric allows the more textural elements of this space to stand out, and the gold ties into the undertones of the fireplace stone and flooring.

Minimal accessorizing keeps the room functional, detailed but not over whelming.

by Matthew J. Goering

Few homeowners realize it, but after home heating and air conditioning, it's your hot water heater that poses the largest energy drain in your home, making it an excellent area to focus on if you're interested in going green. Whether you're looking at replacing that old dinosaur in the pantry with a new, energy-efficient unit, or just looking for some green ways to improve the efficiency of the unit you already have, here's a few suggestions from ServiceMagic on how you can make sure your hot water is as green as possible when you turn on the faucet.

Testimonial

“Designing and building our home in Park City with Scott and Richard Jaffa was an extraordinary experience. Scott's architectural and design guidance produced a home of high quality, beauty and functionality. He is truly a gifted visionary in his field. Beyond the design and involvement in every detail from start to finish, the building project stayed on task, on time and on budget. Attention was paid to every detail by the Jaffa Design team and we could not have felt more fortunate than to be in their hands to create our home. We found our first home design and building experience to be so professional and complete with quality and integrity, that we proceeded a few years later to hire Jaffa Design/Build on another project, our second home in Park City. Their experience in the field and interest in melding their client's desires and needs together leads them to be a stand out leader in the custom home building industry. It is rare to find such a blend of honesty, passion and talent all in one place with execution that is flawless.”
