Old is the New “New”

It seems that everything in life works in cycles and design follows this pattern, in an irregular ellipse of sorts. We reference previous periods quite often in design as trends come and go. The engaging moment of what's “new” is that it typically comes back with a unique and fresh twist. Whether this influence comes from all the other trends that have come and gone in the meanwhile or technological advancements it's always interesting greeting an old friend again.

Right now we are noticing a turn towards more traditional elements with a lighter touch. Curved lines, extra details and warmth, married with clean lines and crisp colors.

This bathroom has the simple lines of subway tiles in an exaggerated size, combined with the simple lines of the cabinetry and herringbone floor tile combined with a traditional ogee edge on the countertop, very traditional plumbing fixtures and lighting modernized with a sharp chrome finish.

Steel framing is stronger than wood construction, doesn't warp or crack like wood, is impervious to insect infestations and is very cost comparable to boot. If you're looking into building a new home, think about metal stud framing.
